Is a white belt reserved for the groom?

I was planning on wearing my black pants/black shirt to my girlfriends sisters wedding (she’s the maid of honour.) I thought by wearing a white tie/belt I’d be able to take some of the darkness out of my outfit so it didn’t look like I was at a funeral, but now I hear that only the groom can wear a white belt is this true? Thanks.

White belts are not in style for anyone. You will look ridiculous if you wear one. Wear a black belt and a light colored tie.
