Can I replace portion of steel fuel line with a piece of rubber fuel line?

My 1978 Buick Regal, carburated, has gas leak underneath the car by driver side door. I looked and the steel fuel line has rusted through at one point and is leaking. Is it safe, possible to cut out this portion and replace it with rubber fuel line and clamps???

Its completely safe, just make sure the line is positioned so that it won’t be close to any exhaust or other hot objects. I’ve used rubber fuel lines on my hot rods for many years and have not had one failure.
