Ladies: How should collegiate men wear their shorts?

I am going to buy some shorts soon, and I wondered what women my age (18-22) found the most appealing/acceptable, and what they disliked about how men my age wear shorts. All advice is welcome, though I most prefer positive advice from women my age.

Food for thought:
-Below, at, or above knee
-Fitted, baggy, or tight
-Shoes to wear with them

By cheap, I assume you two mean plastic/non-leather sandals, got it.

Here’s my vote, Bob:

Just above the knee, fitted (I don’t want to see your boxers outside of the bedroom), if you’re wearing athletic shorts, you can wear athletic shoes, otherwise, quality leather (or pleather if you’re the PeTA type) sandals. Not cheap flip-flops, not teva sandals, and for gosh sake, do not wear socks with sandals.
