How exactly is a one-size ring adjustable?

I recently purchased a ring for a friend. Under the size description of the ring, it says the following. “Size: Ring size adjustable, one size fits all” However the ring happens to be too large for her. I was wondering how can I get the ring “adjusted”.

usually that means the band isnt fixed together underneath
there are 2 ends that overlap and when you put it on, you squeeze the sizes together until it fits
does that make sense?
