There are basically two types of necktie quilts. The first type requires fabric to be cut to look like neckties and then sewn into the quilt block. The second type integrates men’s neckties into one quilt design. It has been a popular trend to use men’s neckties in quilts which have continued to gain popularity nowadays. Other than being the hottest trend, necktie quilts have also revel in popularity for the past decades because of the fact that they can be perfect memory quilts that honor the significant men in your life.

You have different options if you want to create a quilt using men’s ties. Foremost, of course, requires that you decide whether you will use the tie as it is, or simply incorporate the entire tie in your quilt design. Another option that you can use is to use the tie as scrap fabrics where you will cut pieces from each tie to complete a conventional quilt pattern.

Quilters who often use neckties in conventional patterns more often than not opt to use neckties as fabrics in Dresden Plate, Double Wedding Ring, and block patchwork.

If you decide to use the whole necktie in your quilt, then you can start off by assembling them to form a starburst pattern in the middle of the quilt. You can then start filling the empty spaces with other neckties, or if you have more neckties, then you can also opt to use them.

Another idea would be to use the neckties in the border of your quilt.

You can also use neckties to create wall hangings, other than full sized quilts, Christmas tree skirts and stockings, or you can also use them in making pillow cases. If you do not have enough ties to allow you to create a necktie quilt and you feel the urge to do so, then you can ask friends and family to donate at least one piece to help you with your collection. If that is still not enough, then you can also visit thrift stores and garage sales to increase your collection of men’s neckties.

On the contrary, if you have a lot of ties in your collection but can’t seem to identify where you need to start, you can start searching online for different free quilt patterns. There are a lot of quilt patterns that you can view for free while there are also patterns that are offered at a very low cost. You have a million options right at your fingertips whenever you plan to use neckties in creating your quilts.

If you will create a necktie quilt that will serve as a memory quilt for a particular loved one, then you need to include other mementos into the entire quilt pattern. For example, if you r dad loves baseball, then you need to incorporate a necktie that has a baseball design, or at least a baseball themed fabric into the overall design to honor the most important man in your life.
