how to make leather shine?

I am trying to make my own leather wristbands but the onlky leather i can find at a craft fair doesnt have that shine to it, its kind of soft. how do i make it shine like a leather jacket?
I know black shoes polish doesnt work because it rubs off, is it some kind of wax or something? please help me out

The only way of making a dull leather properly shiny would be to refinish the leather with a gloss finish. Anything else that you simply add to the surface would come off eventually.

All leather is finished in different ways to create different sheen levels and colours.

If you have already tried shoe polish you may have a problem refinishing the leather because the shoe polish will contain some form of wax or silicon that will prevent a finish from adhering to the leather.

If you want to try to refinish you should use a nitrocellulose or polyurethane leather finish (generally available in aerosol cans) if you are in the UK you can get one from LTT.
