Why do rings at most jewelry stores come in a standard size 7? Since when?

are womens finger the same size. Sorry, having to have my ring sized up a half size… :0(

It is the most average size, and the easiest to size up or down. I have size 4 fingers and wondered why I couldn’t get a discount for 1/2 the ring material! lol
