What do NHL teams do with the hats from hat tricks?
That’s a lot of hats fans throw on the ice when players score a hat trick. Do they give em back? give em away? Throw em away?
Most teams do one of two things
1) Donate them to Homeless Shelters
2) Donate them to Goodwill for people to purchase
Some cities in the past you had the ability to reclaim your hats, but as part of the 1994 CBA, the NHL and NHLPA entered into an agreement with Amity to have the hats donated for people who need them.
It should be noted that compared to the 1950s and 1960s, the number of hats thrown onto the ice is a LOT less than it used to be. Once people stopped wearing fedoras, the hats declined.
