Why is a pop up in baseball( and in golf) called a “can of corn?”?

When you hit a golf ball or a baseball straight up and someone says “pop up, can of corn” why do they say that? I heard Chris Berman on Baseball Sunday Night call a pop up a “perverbel can of corn,” tell me why?

Because in grocery stores in the old days, the grocers used to keep cans of corn on the very top shelf. In order to get it down for a customer, the grocer would have to reach up with a big hook thing and slide it off of the shelf dropping it into his hand, making for and easy catch, hence “can of corn” a very easy catch.
